Gearing up for the show

The time is finally coming! The "new" original songs version of "LIFE... DEATH... AND ENTERTAINMENT" will be ready to go up by Summer 2011. The first festival workshop of the show had covers of other people's songs. When I permanently moved to NYC I went to a panel of famous writers and was asked: "Do you want your show to go to the moon!?" "Yes!" I said. "Well, then you have got to make it all original "YOU!" So... Ron Mesa, genius composer lyricist, and I have been collaborating on the creation of original songs since about October of 2010 and it has been a sheer blast! Some of the song titles: "I Love You, You Bitch" "Stand up Like a Man" "You are not Alone" "Here I Come New York!" There is one song I have collaborated with a talented composer named Alphonzo who wrote the song for my scene about having to become the public bathroom expert in Los Angeles when I had Crohn's Disease and the woman who wouldn't let me go in her pristine facility... it's called: "You Can't Shit 4 Free." It's kinda a spoken word, rock n' roll song... yes, people, I will be doin' a rap song in my show!
Well... it's been a long time since I posted so don't know when I will again.

I'm collaborating with composers to write original songs for my solo show: "Life... Death... and Entertainment." It's now going to be "all mine." I used other people's songs in the original show and was advised by a good producer that if I want the show to "go to the moon," which I do... it should all be original! The first song which is not quite finished yet is a tune I collaborated with Alphonzo T called: "You Can't Sh*t for Free." It is absolutely awesome and funny... spoken word with a rock rhythm and high note at the end! It's all about my struggle to be the expert at finding public restrooms in LA... and people who will let me use them without demanding coins, tokens and/or keys... while I'm standing there doubled over with Crohn's Disease... DON'T WORRY it's funny too!! Come to New York City this year to see the finished product!

My Solo Show: "Life...Death...and Entertainment"

I jumped off the cliff and after 5 years I performed my solo show in April 2007! It was a tremendous experience. I only did 3 nights as a fundraiser for the Santa Monica Playhouse.

After I get the opening of "Throwing Rubies" (SEE BELOW) done, I plan on re-mounting the show for a longer run. So it will probably be in late June or early July!

WHAT: Susan Damante’s autobiographical solo show where life, death and music collide.

In her own words actress/writer/singer Susan Damante has faced “almost every possible thing a human can and risen up to victory.” Life…Death…and Entertainment is about her journey of overcoming adversity, facing fear, cheating death, gaining character through her misfortune and encouraging others along the way. Quoting Eleanor Roosevelt, Damante says “you gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face...” and Susan adds, “we all have songs that touch our lives during the most important moments… a little tune can illuminate the hard times make them tremendously entertaining!”

WHO: Written and performed by Susan Damante.

Damante studied under William Ball at The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, with Atlantic Theater Acting Studios in New York and LA, Milton Katselas and currently with Jeffrey Tambor in Los Angeles. She has appeared in movies THE CANDIDATE with Robert Redford, THE STUDENT TEACHERS directed by Jonathan Kaplan’s (The Accused), THE WILDERNESS FAMILY (and its two sequels), as well as numerous TV series. Her most recent theatrical appearance was on the New York stage as Bev McHale in HER SONOMA STORY at the Neighborhood Playhouse. She also directed the original play, BRODIE AND RUTH and was producer/casting director of WILLOWBEE which was showcased at the HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. As a talent manager she has coached and guided the successful entertainment careers of daughters, Vinessa Shaw (Eyes Wide Shut, Hocus Pocus, Melinda & Melinda) and Natalie Shaw (Under Suspicion, 413 Hope Street, Just One Night). A thirty-four year practicing Nichiren Buddhist with the SGI, she is thrilled to dedicate her solo play, which took five years to write and develop, to her mentor Daisaku Ikeda and to her mother Marjorie, who taught her true resilience.

Their unlikely friendship bolsters Jeffrey's struggle and allows Margaret to face a buried past of forbidden love and loss."

I play Katherine, Jeffrey's Aids Case Worker who comes in to the story and complicates everything....
